Talking Tech: The Future of Language Learning

Description:

Digital translation increasingly brings a touch of science fiction to daily life. Tasks carried out across linguistic difference become more frictionless. The problem: Language is not merely a means of conducting transactions. It’s the foundation of cognition. It generates and gives meaning to the world we experience - opens us to meanings, values, and ways of being. It gives us choices. In a moment beset by fixed notions of the world - notions with often heartbreaking consequences - language offers something beyond translation. It offers us access to more than one possible world. How does language-learning in the digital space enhance that journey? How does it make it more accessible? What are its responsibilities in a landscape where neutrality is increasingly a non-option?
