SXSW 2020

Me, Myself & AI: An Experiment in Digital Cloning

Description:

We’re giving over our phone data, vlog entries & social media info to an AI in an experiment that will see us create our own AI clones and explore ideas of self in an age of machine learning & big data. The AI system will be a fusion of state-of-art techniques in Deep Learning & Natural Language Processing. From the collection of our personal data, the AI will generate a visual & conversational artificial representation of ourselves. We will present our process, reveal results & introduce our AI clones at SXSW. We’ll host a conversation on stage between us and our Version 2.0s to see how similar our views are. Audience participation is encouraged - attendees can pose questions to both us & our AI counterparts to see if we answer in the same way. Will our AI clones be better versions of us?

Takeaways

  1. Will machine learning imbue our clones with our morals, passions & temperaments as well as our opinions, or will our clones formulate different views?
  2. With governments, advertisers and corporations creating profiles of us today, what risks do inaccurate clones present to individuals and society?
  3. Will an AI clone created purely from our social media data appear and behave very differently to one sourced from our browsing habits or phone data?
