SXSW 2020
News from the Texas Border, Personal Experiences
Description:
Everyone hears stories about what is happening at the Texas border but during this session you will hear from volunteers who, for over a year, have been and are actively working with asylum seekers on both sides of the bridge between Brownsville,TX and Matamoros, MX. TeamBrownsville is a non-profit organization that serves the needs of asylum seekers by providing breakfast, dinner, water, basic medical attention, clothes, love and support to those who are stranded at the bridge .We also welcome and serve asylum seekers who are released at the bus station after being help in detention.Often, we are able to "follow" an asylum seeker through the entire process of waiting at the bridge, crossing into the US, being detained by ICE, to finally being released and beginning the journey in the US.
