SXSW 2020
Enough with all the "Innovation"! It Isn't Working
Description:
Large companies, academic institutions, entrepreneurs, and investors are all bullish about innovation. How can you go wrong with more products, more entrepreneurial activity more revenue? But two physicians who live and breathe innovation are a bit jaded by it all.
Will that slightly better drug drastically improve survival rates? Will that app make me healthier than the 100,000+ fitness apps out there? No one knows but as long as resourceful entrepreneurs can dream up clever business plans, funding will pour in. And we will continue to launch products that will bring in revenue but have no real impact. Is it time to stem the tide and ponder?
Let's think about how to shift the conversation from buzz words and profit to addressing unmet needs. Basically, can we innovate innovation?
