SXSW 2019

The Power of #DadOps for Women In Tech

Description:

A recent study showed that 68% of girls interested in STEM were encouraged by a male champion. This talk examines how male developers (though females can also help) can encourage more women and girls to become developers and join the community, increasing diversity and inclusion. It will outline five practical actions Dads (and Moms, Uncles and friends) can take to help girls pursue STEM careers and succeed in tech. One such action is to teach them to develop an engineering mindset - try, fail, iterate, repeat. Learn to deal with the unknown and understand that the thought process is more important than a specific technology. Join Mandy and Sarwar as they recount their stories with their own male role models and explore specific ways men can be that champion for the girls in their lives.
