Designing Your Life - Planning for Creatives

Description:

Creatives have a problem - since they're not linear thinkers they usually have trouble with things like day planners that mandate a specific times and dates for everything. Worse yet, day planners are mostly tasks compelled to do by other people, leaving nothing to ourselves. In this workshop, I'll show the attendees what I've learned from a career in Agile and Lean development.
Attendees will:
- Defined really Big Goals called Sparcs (spelling intentional)
- Break Sparcs into smaller chunks called Actions
- Prioritize the Actions and define tasks
- Understand the process of working on those tasks without losing motivation
- Determine how to frame success
- Find sources to help them on the journey.
Creatives need to design their life differently - this session will help!

Takeaways

  1. How do I design my life with the multiple competing priorities that I'm faced with, e.g. job vs. art, travel vs. school? We'll call these Sparcs.
  2. We'll take these Sparcs and learn how to use something called a kanban board to track your Actions that are focused on your life design, week by week.
  3. How to stay motivated while pursuing your Sparc? Achievement requires work and sacrifice. How do we keep the momentum and focus on the big picture?
