SXSW 2019
University Presidents Rethinking Higher Education
Description:
American higher education is at a turning point, roiled by anything from high tuitions to political turmoil. It’s time to radically rethink higher education, and this panel of distinguished university presidents has an idea: It’s time to realize that much of the real innovation is happening at America’s land-grant and state schools in the heartland. The actual scientific and intellectual heavy lifting that propels our economy and culture forward, and that needs to be studied and replicated, is being created “off the radar” on campuses in Morgantown, WV; West Lafayette, IN etc.. The panel will present an optimistic and unexpected vision of how higher education can thrive, creating a more equitable system that gives a widely diverse swath of Americans a shot at realizing their American Dream
