SXSW 2019
Future of Commerce: Experiential Retailers
Description:
There’s no denying that retail has evolved over the past few years. “Retail apocalypse” – the demise of physical retail and the dominance of a few large online retailers – is causing concern (and confusion) over the future of retail and what this means for retailers. To survive, traditional retailers are adopting technologies, and pivoting in new, experimental ways to provide relevant experiences, conveniences and improved services for their customers.
With table-stake conveniences that all retailers offer (e.g. free shipping, easy returns, curbside pick-up, online orders), what else can they provide customers that is unique and sensible? Will it be inventory-less stores? Or, will we see more online, direct to consumer brands opening brick-and-mortars?
