SXSW 2019
Building the Decentralized Media Ecosystem
Description:
The media industry is facing increasing challenges in content monetization, content delivery, and digital rights management. Video platforms struggle to move users behind paywalls, but the only real alternative is advertising, which hurts the end user experience. Platforms also continue to face piracy of their paid content. At the same time, online content creators are increasingly frustrated by censorship and meager compensation relative to their value created.
Through the use of blockchain technology there is the potential to improve on these issues. Decentralized video platforms and delivery protocols can change the incentives involved, so that each stakeholder (viewers, platforms, content creators, and advertisers) can realize compensation relative the value they contribute.
