SXSW 2019
HOLISTIC MUSIC INDUSTRY DEVELOPMENT
Description:
Governments, economic development agencies, foundations, export offices, music cities groups, and other stakeholders are recognizing the value of investing in music industry. A strong music scene contributes to the economy, retains skilled workers, and enhances quality of life. But many strategies focus on only one part of the sector. Between live music tourism, export support for companies and artists, local music community support, and product development funding, many of the strategies we use to develop and grow the music sector are not always aligned. This talk will suggest a holistic approach to music industry growth that combines music cities initiatives, artist investment, export initiatives, and outreach to underrepresented groups, with proven success.
