Mediated Body Perceptions
Description:
Wearables enable us to perceive of the body in greater detail. However, sensor technologies fragment the body into data sets and quantified perceptions that abstract the perception of the body. Mediated Body Perceptions proposes to research the affects of wearable technology and sensor devices on the body to better understand the data and quantified perceptions imposed on the body via these somatic devices. Haptic communication via wearable devices propose a paradigmatic shift in the 'readings' of the body. Therefor alternative forms of body perceptions via wearable technologies that propose a more holistic approach to understanding the body are studied. This research aims to gather new perspectives on the use of wearables via situated and embodied research into wearable tech.
