SXSW 2019
Hard Conversations with Robots
Description:
In this talk we will discuss the complexities (and surprising simplicities) of having hard and personal mental health conversations with an automated chatbot. We will discuss the benefits of creating an artificial but not-so-intelligent conversational interface and our process for creating this product that combines human centered design with scientific evidence and experimental methods.
Chatbots have a unique potential to address mental health needs at scale. However, new innovation in how these chatbots are designed, developed and empirically tested will be needed in order to realize this vision.
