SXSW 2025

Claiming Italian Citizenship by Ancestry - Jure Sanguinis

Description:

Between the second half of the nineteenth century and the early twentieth century, ~55 million Europeans migrated to the new world in what became known as 'The Age of Mass Migration.' Among those were ~4 million Italians, many of whom made landfall at Ellis Island ('The Great Arrival'). If you have Italian roots, your family story may weave into this part of history. Italy is one of several countries offering their heirs citizenship. This session will entail my 'Italian citizenship jure sanguinis' journey, challenges/successes, and next steps in making the world a smaller place.
