SXSW 2025
The Dismal Reality of Latino Representation in Media
Description:
The U.S. Latino cohort is growing faster than any other minority group. Latino moviegoers consistently drive box office sales. Films and shows with Latino leads and co-leads (Barbie, The Last of Us, Avatar, to name a few) are statistically more likely to perform and generate revenue than those without.
However, there remains a stark underrepresentation of Latinos in entertainment, on-screen and behind camera. With a combination of data and personal anecdotes, this session will emphasize the social AND economic opportunities we can unlock when we prioritize Latino inclusion.
