NASA Earth Science Filmmakers: Stories from the Field

Description:

We always get the same question: NASA looks at the Earth? With over 2 dozen Earth-observing satellites and countless Earth-focused scientists, it’s this small, scrappy team of female filmmakers’ jobs to get out into the field, sometimes a little too out there, and share NASA's scientists’ works. Covering field campaigns, from Alaskan Tundra to a massive Utah fire, this team of storytellers share what it’s like working with the brightest minds, the state of climate storytelling, and some not-so-glamorous moments from their job.

Takeaways

  1. Problem solving in the field: We'll discuss a number of challenges we've faced in extreme environments and how we remain solution-oriented.
  2. Creativity: Climate change is a difficult topic to cover time after time due to its inherent doomsday message. We'll talk about how we navigate that.
  3. Science Communications: Distilling incredibly complicated science into digestible videos is HARD. We'll talk through how we do just that.
