Actions Matter: Mental Models of Allies & Accomplices
Description:
We will discuss mental models of allies and accomplices in general and as they relate to librarians and information professionals. Librarians are great allies, but in librarianship, the need for accomplices is also great. Marginalized people in these professions need more than allies to fight against the daily injustices, microaggressions and racism that they experience. Our research explores what it means to be an ally or an accomplice in librarianship, how marginalized librarians perceive allies or accomplices, and how librarians can shift from being an ally to becoming an accomplice.
