SXSW 2025
From Objects to Subjects: Women's Sexual Empowerment
Description:
Writer and sexologist Suzannah Weiss will read from her new book Subjectified: Becoming a Sexual Subject and speak about how women and other marginalized people can take back their power in a world that objectifies them. Combining Suzannah's own adventures as a sex and relationship writer with her expertise as a multi-certified sex educator, this session will be an interactive discussion about the power dynamics that impact us in the bedroom and in every room — and how we can play a more active role in our sexuality and our lives.

Takeaways
- Women can have better sex lives by focusing less on what they look like and more on what they look at—less on being wanted and more on what they want.
- We need to raise our standard for sexual encounters from consent to desire. I'll teach 2 helpful frameworks for this: embodied consent and "hell yes."
- It's more important than ever to question gender norms now that they're sold to us sneakily through marketing tactics & terms like "divine feminine."
