SXSW 2025

From Objects to Subjects: Women's Sexual Empowerment

Description:

Writer and sexologist Suzannah Weiss will read from her new book Subjectified: Becoming a Sexual Subject and speak about how women and other marginalized people can take back their power in a world that objectifies them. Combining Suzannah's own adventures as a sex and relationship writer with her expertise as a multi-certified sex educator, this session will be an interactive discussion about the power dynamics that impact us in the bedroom and in every room — and how we can play a more active role in our sexuality and our lives.

Takeaways

  1. Women can have better sex lives by focusing less on what they look like and more on what they look at—less on being wanted and more on what they want.
  2. We need to raise our standard for sexual encounters from consent to desire. I'll teach 2 helpful frameworks for this: embodied consent and "hell yes."
  3. It's more important than ever to question gender norms now that they're sold to us sneakily through marketing tactics & terms like "divine feminine."
