Workplace Toddlers

Description:

I will outline the similarities between toddlers and professionals in the workplace who have not developed self-awareness and the ability to lead themselves and yet lead others. This is based on my 18 years of corporate experience and my journey into leadership and personal development. I started referring to people in the workplace as "overgrow toddlers" once I had a toddler of my own and saw how similar the behavioural and reasoning patterns are. I coach and mentor young professionals to help them develop self-knowledge and to learn how to work with people with limited/no EQ.

Takeaways

  1. The first step in leading others is to learn how to lead yourself.
  2. Leading yourself requires an intimate knowledge of yourself and an awareness of the effect you have on the world around you.
  3. Being able to consider yourself as part of an eco-system will help you lead responsibly, rather than with an ego/self-centric view.
