Cultivating Latina Youth Voices Through Art & Writing
Description:
Journalist and Educator Jovita Idár wrote, “When you educate a woman, you educate a family.” In this hands-on, interactive workshop, participants will learn about Somos Escritoras, a writing, art, and storytelling workshop designed to support Latina girls in unleashing their stories and amplifying their voices. Participants will engage in writing, art, and storytelling activities centered on culture, language, and identity. We will discuss strategies for implementing an arts-based writing curriculum that focuses on the identities of writers, honors stories, and fosters community.
