SXSW 2025
Analytics Challenge: The Next Generation of Data Scientists
Description:
“Data scientist” was once named the “sexiest job of the 21st century.” However, only 4.2% of data scientists are Black, despite comprising 14.4% of the U.S. population. Black Americans are disproportionately impacted by overt and unseen bias in education. One reason: HBCUs don’t have the same quality of resources for their data science programs. This panel will discuss the need for diverse talent in data science, how HBCUs and companies can equip students with the tools and opportunities to solve rigorous data analytics problems beyond the classroom, and the foundation for responsible AI.
