Charting the Military-to-Civilian Career Pathway


For some of the 200,000 women and men who transition from military service into the civilian workforce each year, finding a good-paying job right out of the military can be challenging. This panel examines education and training programs and other workforce initiatives that are providing a clear pathway for unemployed and underemployed veterans – and military spouses – to solid family-sustaining careers.

  1. There are lots of on-campus education and training programs already in place
  2. Veterans and military spouses bring soft skills, but some of the harder skills are not always well recognized
  3. There are programs in place to help veterans start training for new jobs even before they leave the service
