SXSW 2023
Back to the Future: Psychiatry and Psychedelics
Description:
Panelists will explore the ways in which psychiatry needs a "back to the future" moment to refocus treatment on recovery, not symptom reduction. SSRIs and existing treatment models have fallen short, fueling the global mental health epidemic. This generation of scientists and healthcare leaders have a unique opportunity to improve on this model of care, with an approach based in the historic work of Sigmund Freud. A new model of psychiatry, assisted with psychedelic and digital medicines, can provide an evidence-based path to a better future for patients with anxiety disorders, pain, and addiction.
