SXSW 2023

Turning Traditional VC Upside-Down

Description:

Crowdfunding is nothing new, but using the crowdfunding model to raise millions in equity is now a real possibility. Entrepreneurs are now able to mobilize their existing community of fans and customers to raise significant growth capital as an alternative (or complement) to a VC round. We’ll share some incredible success stories, discuss lessons learned along the way, and detail how your business can follow in their footsteps. John Vaskis and Pialy Aditya of Republic will be joined by Noah Schnapp of Stranger Things, who recently founded CPG brand Snack TBH and is using his personal brand to translate fans into investors. Also on the panel will be Sahil Lavingia, CEO of self-publishing marketplace Gumroad, the very first company to raise the $5M max allowed in equity crowdfunding.
