SXSW 2023

The New WWW - [Black] Women, Wearables, and Web 3

Description:

The World Wide Web was created to connect and provide access to information, and Web 3.0 decentralizes it. Although large amounts of data travel through the internet daily, access and ownership for some communities remain a problem. Today, the digital divide is growing, tech companies struggle to hire diverse candidates, and minority-owned start-ups receive less than 3% of venture funding. But wait, there is another way! Join three black women tech founders as they talk with the host of the AI: Decodes the System podcast about the importance of using emerging technologies to realize the ultimate power of the internet—connecting ALL communities and democratizing ownership. They will discuss how they navigate the interwebs and metaverse, close gaps, and bring their communities with them.

Takeaways

  1. All communities have not fully realized the internet's potential, and we have the opportunity to bring people along.
  2. Web 3.0 can close gaps in access if we position people in specific populations on how to take advantage of these technologies.
  3. A number of funders are doing the hard work, learning to navigate spaces, and are ready to bring others along.
