SXSW 2023
Museum Trends in the Era of Distraction
Description:
Museums are changing as part of a world in transition. In an era of distractions and digital overload, what makes museums attractive ? Why do some people visit museums frequently, while others are not interested in them at all? What behaviors and trends should be considered by managers and curators of museums and cultural centers? These questions led to a research project in Brazil conducted with hundreds of visitors and non-visitors of museums, and several institutions. This session will present the results of this project as a trends report on the future of museums—the new Museum Report—and will also share how these insights led to foster innovation in the Musehum_Communications and Humanities Museum.
