SXSW 2023
Build and License Web3 Music Projects at Scale
Description:
By 2030, web3 is expected to help catapult recorded music consumption to nearly $90 billion. The benefits of integrating music into the metaverse and other web3 installations, from unlocking the potential of new revenue streams to accessing a wider community of fans, are clear.
But licensing in web3 poses some conundrums. For a start, will the model remain similar to syncs or migrate towards core consumption? The royalty splits are different for each. And what rights come with NFTs? Can they be used by other people?
Licensing and reporting will need gymnastic agility to enable fans to do something as simple as access their DSP playlists in the metaverse.
With a 4 year dispute in Web 2.0 just behind us, let’s hope the cavalry of a fixed-price menu of licenses arrives soon.
