SXSW 2023

Reconceptualize the Missing Layers of the Internet

Description:

Envisioning a people-centric digital future requires a vast cross-sector community of bold social innovators to explore the premise that we need positive alternative models for how technology systems, protocols, and platforms that govern daily life online are designed, built, and governed. Right now, the balance is off – many technologies are beneficial, but we need to better understand the circumstances that yield good outcomes and those that are likely to produce harm. Open protocols and adaptive governance mechanisms could complement regulatory reform efforts to support greater interoperability, security, privacy, transparency and accountability in our digital future. The session will be interactive and rooted in digital inclusion and advancing fundamental human rights.
