SXSW 2023
Gaming 2050: NFTs & Digital Nostalgia
Description:
This panel of gaming and NFT professionals will dive into the role of NFTs and how they’ll shape gaming and drive digital nostalgia. The gaming industry is no longer niche. IDC data from 2020 states that the video game industry is now a larger market than the global movie and North American sports industries combined.
Gaming is intrinsically nostalgic, with players coveting their high scores and player skins and loot. NFTs could be the “baseball cards” of the gamer generation — a collectible in a nostalgia-based economy – that holds value, both monetary and emotional. By 2050, gamers can look back on their gaming experience, and own it, save it, and access it, thanks to the blockchain. Their digital collectible, hallmarked forever in the blockchain, will be the same as when they were acquired, untouched by time or digital dust.
