SXSW 2023

Inclusive Naming | From Policy to Practice

Description:

In a state of global awareness and demand for inclusion, we must challenge unconscious biases and create safe spaces for all communities, including our engineering development organizations. Words widely used for decades in computer code and other technical contexts are problematic, but organizations like ours can make consistent, responsible choices to remove harmful language.
Jerome J. Sanders will discuss how we partner with our engineering organizations on moving from policy to practice through People, Process, and Tools along with an overview of the steps we took, lessons learned, our plan to promote employee awareness, and cultural change, and what remains to be done.
