SXSW 2023

Plastics Credits & The Global Plastic Crisis

Description:

Scientists say that if we don't act now, by 2050, there will be more plastic than fish in the world’s oceans. Plastic waste is an urgent global environmental, human health, and economic problem. An effective way to protect oceans from plastic pollution is to prevent it from getting there. Until now, there has been little to no financial incentive to fund the collection and management of low or zero-value ocean bound plastic. Plastic credits are an innovative, multi-faceted approach to reducing plastic waste & saving our oceans. Besides increasing access to global funding, they provide environmental, social, and economic benefits to local communities and ecosystems. Learn more from the organization that brought the world’s first independently verified plastic credit to market.
