SXSW 2023
Envisioning A Tech-Empowered Democracy in 2050
Description:
Few things are in greater need of innovation and inspiration than the future of democracy. Backsliding, loss of faith, and rising authoritarianism are compounding with current and emerging technological threats to suggest a future with futile democracies. This session will explore a vision for a stronger future of democracy that is enabled rather than weakened by technology. It will examine a tech-enabled future of democracy by flipping threats on their head and discussing opportunities in key issue areas, including civic and government technology, internet freedom, emerging technologies, and innovative internet governance. Speakers will share their innovative visions for the future of democracy, offering an inspiring vision and concrete examples of how tech can help to get us there.
