SXSW 2022

Re-inventing public speaking from the ground up

Description:

Savvy marketers know public speaking is a key part of thought leadership. Getting a TED talk is on many a bucket list. Conferences are a multi-billion-$ industry showcasing subject matter experts, often speaking pro bono.
Yet, many people make a living speaking. Celebrities and public figures are paid handsomely for appearances. Authors look to add “best seller” to their bios to increase their speaking payday. Predatory trainers and unscrupulous speaker bureaus fleece the hopeful.
Meanwhile, MANels (all male panels) are still mainstays in many industries. Diversity and inclusion efforts are legion and yet the faces onstage remain uniform. New voices are absent.
And let’s talk about the pandemic and its impact on events and speakers. Now is the time to re-invent the entire industry.
