SXSW 2022

You Want an Inclusive Workforce? End the FTE Model

Description:

A broken record. Fifty percent of women in tech will leave by the age of 35 citing work/life balance as the driver.

The pandemic delivered the big reveal, peeling back the layers of dry shampoo that women have been surviving behind. There is no unseeing this mess.

Your inclusive workforce is a mirage.

For fear of losing a coveted seat at the table, under the guise of stability, women carry on in an archaic FTE model working 40, 50, 60 hours per week. And then, they hit a wall.

All the on-site childcare, remote and “flex” models won’t fix the fact that companies continue to assign value to time not value to outcomes and we already know what happens next - women opt out.

Either build a better model of work or stop proselytizing DEI.

It's time to end the FTE.
