SXSW 2022
Beyond the Paralympics is a Human Right to Play
Description:
A lifetime of training, dedication, and desire all culminate in this moment. At the biggest international event in sports, athletes with disabilities have not only put their heart and soul into preparation but battled for the right to compete regardless of ability, age, gender, or race. While culture shifts to celebrate different bodies and end the marginalization of people with disabilities, the ability to acquire adaptive sporting equipment remains out of reach for many, infringing on a human right to play. Has the media gaze helped to overcome these challenges, or do we still have far to go? From seasoned athletes and medalists to the future faces of Paralympic sport, meet with four international Paralympians and discover the history, importance, and future of the Games.
