Brazilian Favelas: Community Innovators
Description:
Who says that innovation needs to come from hip agencies or high-tech labs? In Brazil, some of the biggest innovations are being realized in and with some of the country’s favelas. From the “Favela 3D” program that uses modern urbanism concepts such as 3D-printed houses to build homes, to the “Favela 5G” program that is willing to introduce 5G technology to the country first on the poorest communities, Gerando Falcões - the largest social franchising in Brazil - is bringing high-tech tools to turn the favelas into innovations labs. Its founder Edu Lyra’s ambitious project “FavelaX” is challenging Elon Musk to eradicate favelas in Brazil before SpaceX lands on Mars - and he's already using rocket science to end poverty in Brazil.
