Description:
BIPOC communities are creating new technology solutions to advance social justice. Three frontline leaders will share their work across climate justice, gender-based violence and preservation of Indigenous language. Trina Reynolds-Tyler will share the grassroots approach she leads for data analysis and machine learning to build a public database of gender-based violence by the Chicago PD. Jen Castro will discuss work with Indigenous communities in the Amazon to co-build technology that enables local groups to map, monitor and defend Indigenous territory from oil drilling, illegal mining and deforestation. Michael Running Wolf will describe work to preserve endangered Indigenous languages with AI by building skills to create Automatic Speech Recognition AI.
