SXSW 2021

Practical Sustainability: America's Way Forward

Description:

Sustainability cannot be limited by partisan politics, there is too much at stake.

The climate is changing. We see this in California wildfires, extreme weather events in the gulf coast, crop yields, and increasing burdens borne by environmental justice communities and communities of color. Solutions to these problems require buy-in from all Americans, regardless of political persuasion.

Sustainability can only work when it is adaptable to diverse stakeholders, Republican and Democrat. Tomás will share lessons from community solar project development in rural, suburban, and rural Illinois, working in environmental justice communities, and how to engage the private sector to reduce their carbon footprint through energy efficiency programs.
