SXSW 2021

Stop Building Organizations for the 19th Century

Description:

The systems developed to organize the workforce in the early industrial 19th century are woven into the fabric of nearly everything we do today, propagating standardization over creativity and human potential. It all starts when we first go to school. And then, this standardization is perpetuated into the way our corporations, brands, and agencies are organized. It is pervasive in how we work, the tools we use, as well as the buildings and cities we inhabit. So, how can we re-invest our energy into our creative culture and maximize the output and quality of the things people can do together? How can we organize ourselves for the future in a postindustrial workplace? This session will explore what’s needed in order to put the emphasis back where it belongs—on human potential.
