SXSW 2021
Empowering Women Through Accessible Technology
Description:
Red Dot Foundation’s Safecity app crowdsources, aggregates, and reports personal stories of sexual harassment and abuse in public spaces as part of their effort to make cities safer. But engagement is challenging when the women you hope to support feel vulnerable, have limited access to reliable wifi, and have low literacy levels. Join Data Clinic and Safecity to hear how we designed a lightweight, accessible app to empower these women to be heard and join the supportive Safecity community. Through this use case, they will share tips on the role accessibility can play in engaging audiences, especially underserved populations, and the role open source technology can play in building sustainable solutions for nonprofits.
