SXSW 2021

University Startup Acceleration is the New Normal

Description:

The 2020 global pandemic has made us deeply aware that everyone in the world does not have good access to (1) knowledge (2) resources (3) connections. But universities do, and as a result, centers of education in today's economy are becoming hotbeds of innovation, spawning startups through knowledge-sharing, access to venture capital, and alumni networks. AcceleratorInfo lists 260 university-founded accelerators in the U.S. alone, while the Center on Rural Innovation's 2020 report shows that higher education plays a key role in bringing "tech-based" opportunities to small towns. As political fracturing and strained international relations weaken our world governments, higher education continues to build bridges. As a result, university startup acceleration has become the new normal.
