SXSW 2020
F*ck the Gatekeepers. Wait, Maybe We Need Them?
Description:
Artists have complained about the gatekeepers for forever. Millions of emails are sent to record labels, radio DJs, music supervisors, playlisters, writers, etc. only to hear *crickets*. Artists spend thousands of dollars on publicists, radio promoters & pitching services often to NOT get that premiere, playlist feature, or interview.
Who’s to blame?
The gatekeepers!
Labels & music platforms have “replaced” gatekeepers with submission forms, algorithms & data. Wondering why your song hasn’t reached Discover Weekly or your favorite radio show? Wondering why you haven’t been signed or have your song used on TV?
Blame the digital gatekeepers!
The game has really changed. This panel is a discussion between artist teams & gatekeepers about how to gain exposure in 2020 and beyond.
