SXSW 2020
IP and R&D: The Future of Defense and Innovation
Description:
From duct tape to GPS, U.S. inventors have created technologies in response to military needs in time of conflict and peace. Many of the innovations that shape our daily lives have military roots. Research and development for military purposes presents unique issues and opportunities for inventors and entrepreneurs whether military or civilian. Representatives from the Army Futures Command, the Smithsonian Institution, and the United States Patent and Trademark Office will discuss the history of military innovation, the cutting edge R&D in which the Army is currently engaged, and the role intellectual property plays in its commercialization now and in the future.
