SXSW EDU 2020
Teaching About Race In a Divided Country
Description:
Subconscious bias & cultural or community-based understandings of race begin at a young age. Yet curriculum to combat white superiority & systemic racism often doesn't begin until high school or college, if at all. Educators have the power to break down the boundaries that make it difficult or uncomfortable to talk about race. In this panel, 3 teachers from different backgrounds & regions will talk about how race affects students & how to best implement curriculum that speaks to issues of race.
