SXSW 2020
Social Robots Empowering Humans
Description:
People spend increasing amounts of time on busy work, leaving less time to spend on the activities we love and are best at as humans. Robot teammates have the potential to improve people’s work and daily lives by helping with our busy work. If robots can help mitigate 50% of people’s busy work, we will have more time to pursue the parts of our lives and jobs we are best at, and have the opportunity to make an even bigger impact on the world. The challenge in creating such a robot lies in determining what skills a robot that operates side-by-side with humans needs to have to be both socially accepted and efficient. This panel will discuss the future of robots entering our everyday culture and share a vision for a society where robots and humans work positively together.

Takeaways
- Robots will never replace humans; they'll never have human creativity, originality, intuition, relationship-building capabilities, ingenuity, passion.
- For robots to enter mainstream society, they need to demonstrate that they're both efficient and socially acceptable (make people feel comfortable).
- With humans and robots working together positively and collaboratively side-by-side, our world will propel forward even faster and more positively.
