SXSW 2020
Tech Workers of the World, Unite!
Description:
Organized tech workers hold enormous power to drive social change within their companies, in the industry, and beyond. More than being organized by nonprofits and unions, tech workers are organizing themselves and meeting through the Tech Workers Coalition – an international, worker-led, all-volunteer, and unincorporated network of tech workers. This panel offers vision and strategies from real efforts. #TechWontBuildIt emerged to stop contracts with ICE and CBP at Wayfair, Salesforce, and elsewhere. Union drives are taking root among Facebook cafeteria workers, Amazon warehouse workers, and Kickstarter developers. Over 20,000 workers joined #GoogleWalkout, an ongoing protest against sexual harassment and forced arbitration. Tech workers of the world, unite!
