SXSW 2019
The Politics of Marijuana: What's in Store for Texas
Description:
March — when SXSW is — will be at the peak of Texas' legislative session. This panel will examine the politics of marijuana: Is it being mentioned at a hot-button issue in 2019 or is it falling to the wayside — again? What's at stake if the state decided to decriminalize or even legalize marijuana? With shifting political calculus and public opinion toward the plant changing, will that affect what lawmakers do in regards to marijuana policy? I'm of the strong belief that marijuana, and talks of legalization, will come about either in 2019 or 2021. This panel could examine where Texas is at now and what a changing national tone could mean for Texas in the future.
