SXSW EDU 2019
Beyond Retention: Trauma in the (STEM)Ed Classroom
Description:
This session addresses retention and persistence for our most vulnerable student populations, especially in STEM education. The talk outlines relational theories and approaches to classroom teaching&learning, and argues that such approaches are necessary in the face of microaggressions and trauma often experienced by the community college student. Concrete examples of relational, trauma-sensitive practices applicable to every subject area and teaching context will be introduced, time permitting.
