“We live in a fantasy world and we need fantasy products to fill it,” says modern soothsayer Rolf Jensen. The physical and digital worlds have converged — and one of the industries leading the charge isn’t the gaming or entertainment verticals the tech world expected. 2018 saw the rise of computer-generated goods like lenses, filters and virtual designs created purely to be worn on social media. We call it “Vaporwear.” As brick and mortar retail, luxury fashion and cosmetics come under threat by eCommerce platforms, retailers are looking to new, digital first ways to drive brand love. It may be that fashion and retail will lead the AR charge.
