SXSW 2019

The Category is: Trans Resilience

Description:

FX’s drama “Pose” features the largest cast of transgender actors in series regular roles ever. The show is set in the 1980s at the height of the AIDS crisis, and uses storytelling to provide a glimpse into the erasure and attacks trans people faced.

Fast forward to 2018. How has the trans community continued to not only endure codified attacks on their humanity, but persevered? An LGBTQ storyteller will moderate a discussion between a trans activist who has been a vocal advocate for trans liberation well before her community was shown in prime time, and a trans youth activist who has used creative tactics to show the power of young people. In the context of Pose, the conversation will focus on their lived experiences, work, and forward-looking recommendations.
