SXSW 2019

The Robot-Powered Home of Tomorrow

Description:

The smart home of the future won’t be filled with wifi lightbulbs, instead it will be one where a personal robot can turn the lights on or off, just like you would. Machine Learning and AI are expanding into the main stream, but their applications will go unnoticed until you are entrenched in them.

Artificial Intelligence is currently contained within our smart devices, and online in the services we use. Netflix famously tempts you to watch movies by showing you poster art that is tailored to your interests. But this is reactive. What if your smart home setup a movie night for you, picking the movie, making dinner, and invited over a couple of friends? It’s all possible now. All that’s left is for us to welcome them into our homes.

Takeaways

  1. AI & Machine Learning is iterative, it will take many rounds of development to get to a good product.
  2. Smart homes don't require replacing everything in your house. Technology can adapt to what we already have.
  3. The capabilities are here, and they're waiting for the right application.
